Look at These Interesting Marketing Trends
How to earn money at home on the internet

Internet Marketing vs. Network Marketing vs. Affiliate Marketing:
The most popular search term here is Internet Marketing. When looking at the this graph it's important to keep in mind that Internet Marketing is an all-inclusive term that includes (or at least touches on) every marketing activity that occurs on the web. When you began researching how to earn money on the internet, you most likely searched for terms similar to "work from home". As you continued your search, perhaps you picked up on the excessive use of the term "internet marketing" and began researching - using that term. From there, you were introduced to more narrowed search terms... such as Network Marketing and Affiliate Marketing.
The next most popular term searched in this set was Network Marketing (which is actually synonymous with MLM, but more common). This is explained by the fact that Network Marketers (actually MLM or Multi Level Marketing businesses) widely advertise their business, hoping to recruit people who are new to researching the "Work from Home" industry. They specifically and aggressively advertise to these people. So, to put it into context, imagine you are on the internet for the first time entering terms like "work from home" or "how to earn money from the internet" or "make money typing". Believe me... they know all of the terms you will use in your search. In addition to all of the scams and illegitimate opportunities that are thrown out at you, you are bombarded in all of the top search results, for pages on end, displaying ads and descriptions for business opportunities that don't come right out and tell you they are multi level marketing companies. They are very sneaky... but they have been successfully recruiting people that way or they would not continue to do it. Multi Level Marketing is, in my opinion, a legitimate work from home option. You just have to be ready for it and understand exactly what you are getting yourself into. So you click on one or many of these ads and you note additional search terms that you should Google. The acronym MLM or the words "multi level marketing" pop up and you further narrow your research to include these terms. One broad search term graduates to more narrowed search terms... and on and on. You know how it is.
Once you start Googling MLM and "multi level marketing", you might see such things as warnings, one mlm company pitting against another, etc. This pushes you to continue your search into MLM, because you are cautious and curious. Maybe you are desperate, like I was. I could go on and on about this process and the different things you come across - but I'll stop here. I think I have pretty much shown why the search term Network Marketing comes in second.
Finally, let's look at the Affiliate Marketing line on the graph. The primary reason this ranks so low in this graph is because it's not one of the search terms used in the initial phase of researching "how to earn money on the internet". The secondary reason is very simple. Affiliate Marketing is not being "pushed" on you. It is not aggressively postured in the search engines to seek out and recruit bodies. Therefore, it usually crops up during your research on other internet marketing search terms. That is not to say you won't be invited to become an affiliate for someone, but usually, this is only something that happens when you are actively marketing on the internet and have an established presence. Most times, you seek out affiliate marketing opportunities as you are ready for them. It's very similar to applying for a job, except... most times you will be accepted on the spot and be provided the online tools you need to complete your "job".
In summary, the graph above totally reinforces our story.
Trends depict how to earn money on the internet

Affiliate vs. MLM vs. eCommerce:
As I look at this graph, I see that the term "Affiliate" is being searched for much more often than both eCommerce and MLM search trends. To me, this reinforces my view that Affiliate Marketing is regarded as one of the top three ways to earn money at home on the internet! Here, I used the actual search term "MLM" rather than "Network Marketing". It is evident that the search terms "Affiliate" and "eCommerce" show increased search trends because people are looking for legal, realistic, and respected forms of earning money online. When I search for "Affiliate", I may be looking for products I can recommend as an affiliate. When I search for eCommerce, I am probably searching for how to get started in eCommerce, the best opportunities out there for it, or who my competitors will be. On the other hand, I could be searching the internet for eCommerce suppliers to avoid, etc. I believe less people search for the exact term "MLM" because there is so much controversy surrounding that industry and it is very difficult to decide which way to go with it; especially when 50% say "yes it's legitimate" and 50% say "no it's all fraud". People generally stay away from that exact term unless they are researching the validity of the industry or MLM companies to join. These statements are, of course, my own opinion and based on my own experience and the countless experiences I have read about on the internet during my yearlong research. As I noted with the previous graph, I am one of those who does believe that the MLM industry is a legitimate one. However, as with any market on the internet, you must do your research to determine the legal status of each and every company or opportunity you are considering joining. As a side note (and despite my own personal experience of NOT following this advise), you should first try affiliate marketing.
Really, until you learn the following marketing tasks, I wouldn't recommend that you dive right into any internet marketing industry:
- how to generate web traffic with little to no money (unless you have the money) (I always want to get TARGETED visitors to my site)
- how to market your blog (each of these, blog, website, and product marketing vary slightly)
- how to market your website (each of these, blog, website, and product marketing vary slightly)
- how to market your product (each of these, blog, website, and product marketing vary slightly)
- which online marketing strategies are most effective and produce results (and hopefully harness the power of web 2.0)
- how to use Google Adwords (if you have money)
- the basics of search engine optimization (maybe even the basics of HTML if you don't already know them)
- how to achieve 1st, 2nd, and 3rd page search engine ranking (this can be done with little to know money)
(And, to be perfectly honest... here is where looking into MLM would be easier - because you can call people all day long and try to recruit them into your business. That's a very tough business though. And, when you're busy doing that, how will you have time to learn how to properly market on the internet. I, personally, did not want to do that, so I had the long learning curve. The benefits were well worth it for me.)
Take a Look at these Traffic Generation Trends

Video Ads vs. Social Marketing vs. Pay Per Click ads
vs. Search engine optimization:
From this statistical graph we can clearly see that pay per click advertising is practically non-existent, compared to Video, Social, and SEO traffic generation methods. I took the time to search for many variations on the pay per click search term... and they were all the same... Practically Non-Existent! Note how Video ads has a strong presence in search statistics. This is a very interesting trend graph. I am a huge proponent of using web 2.0 techniques to get traffic to my sites.
